Attic & Ventilation Inspection in Kendrick, ID

Attic & Ventilation Inspection in Kendrick, ID

An attic and ventilation inspection in Kendrick, ID looks at the part of the roof that decides how long the shingles last. Most shingle manufacturers tie their warranty to proper ventilation, and a hot, damp attic can cook a roof years early.

We start at the soffits. Insulation stuffed into the eaves without baffles blocks intake air, and that is the most common problem we see. Then we check exhaust: ridge vent, box vents, gable vents or powered fans. Mixing a ridge vent with box vents on the same roof can short-circuit airflow so the lower attic never clears. The usual target is about 1 square foot of net free vent area for every 150 square feet of attic floor, or 1 per 300 when intake and exhaust are balanced.

Inside, we look for frost or rusted nail tips on the underside of the decking, dark staining on the north slope, bathroom fans venting straight into the attic and gaps around can lights that leak warm air. In cold climates that warm air is what melts snow and builds ice dams at the eaves.
